New Gallery Opens

Friday the 5th September saw the opening of the new ArtGeo Gallery.  Approximately150 art lovers crammed into the stunning new venue to enjoy the opening festivities.  Gallery goers were treated to the melodic voice of Caris Doyle and her guitar.  Caris is formerly from Bunbury and is presently studying classical voice work at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

Philip Berry and his work "The River"Philip Berry and his work "The River"Linked to the opening of the gallery was the inaugural showing of Signature South West.  The $10,000 first prize was sponsored by the Shire of Busselton.  The winning entry will be added to the Shire's Art Collection.  It was won by Philip Berry of Ludlow for his work titled "The River."  This highly textured work is a self portrait of Philip and his dog down by the river near his home.

The Local Artist Award, sponsored by Busselton Machining and Diesel was awarded to Busselton artist Jim Harland for his work "Children Fishing" The judges loved the freshness of the work and felt it portrayed a view of Busselton that many people would relate to.

The $500 People's Choice from Busselton Toyota will be presented at the end of the exhibition.  All members of the public are encouraged to take the time to vote for their favourite work.  They may realize how difficult it was to choose just one winner from such an appealing set of works.

Signature South West is on display until 5th October.  Gallery hours are from 10 - 4 pm daily (closed Wednesdays).
