The City of Busselton Art Award is open to all artists residing in Western Australia working in any medium or subject. Through this annual award, the City of Busselton aims to build a collection of contemporary Western Australian art.

First Prize - $10,000 (acquisitive) + solo exhibition in ArtGeo Gallery (2021) 

Emerging Artist Award - $2,500 

People's Choice - $500 

Conditions of Entry 

  • Artists must be residents in Western Australia. 
  • Entry limited to one per artist.
  • ArtGeo employees and City of Busselton staff, involved with the exhibition, are not eligible to enter.
  • Artwork must have been executed within the last 12 months and be the artist's original work.
  • Maximum size for 2D work 1.4m x 1.4m. 
  • Please discuss size and weight of 3D work with ArtGeo staff prior to submission of entry form. 
Eligibility for Emerging Artist Award

You are considered emerging regardless of age if you meet all of these criteria:

  • Have not won at art award worth more than $5,000.
  • Have not held a solo exhibition in a recognised commercial or public gallery by invitation. 
  • If applicable, have practiced as a professional artist with an ABN for 5 years or less. 
  • Sell your work for less than $5,000. 
Submission Process

2. A brief statement about the work being submitted.

3. One page CV outlining information relevant to your art practice (Microsoft Word documents - electronic format only).

4. One reproduction-quality digital image of the artwork submitted for selection (jpg format, 300 dpi minimum).

Please note selection for the exhibition and consideration for an award is made in the presence of the artworks. Selection is not made from photographs, they are used for our records and publicity only. 

Drop-off and Delivery of Artwork
  • Free metro drop-off to Artist's Chronicle - 130 South St Beaconsfield, 14 October, 2pm to 4pm
  • Country drop-off to ArtGeo Gallery - 7 Queen St Busselton, 14 & 15 October, 10am 4pm
  • All entries must be labelled with artist's name and title on the back of the work. 
  • Entries must be presented ready for installation with suitable hanging devices attached (if applicable), eg D rings positioned at the top of the frame or artwork (5-10cm).
  • Artwork being delivered via Artist's Chronicle's drop-off service must be packed with bubble wrap and solid cardboard box, and clearly marked with artist's name and title of artwork on outside of packaging.  
Selection and Judging 
  • All entries will be assessed for selection for the exhibition by a panel of experts, who will then judge the selected artworks for the City of Busselton Art Award ($10,000 acquisitive) and the Emerging Artist Award ($2,500 non-acquisitive). Highly commended certificates may also be awarded. 
  • Please do not enter this award if you are unwilling to go through a pre-selection process. The judges decision is final. No communication is permitted without their agreement. 
  • The winning entry becomes the property of the City of Busselton. If the value of the prize-winning work exceeds $10,000, the lesser amount must be accepted. 
  • People' Choice Award selected by popular vole at the end of the exhibition. 
Insurance and Sales 
  • Artworks are covered for insurance by the City of Busselton while on exhibition only, not during trasit, NB an excess of $1,000 applies. 
  • 34% comission will be charged by City of Busselton on all sales made during the exhibition
