The Settlement Art Project features four life-size bronze sculptures by Greg James. The sculptures celebrate Busselton’s settlement history and currently include the Whaler’s Wife, Timber Worker, Spanish Settler and John Garrett Bussell – pioneer founder of the settlement at the Vasse (now Busselton). Two more sculptures will be installed in late 2018 and 2019.

Following a period of consultation with the local Aboriginal community, Gaywal was their unanimous choice of subject for the fifth statue. An Aboriginal Elder at the time of settlement, Gaywal symbolises strength and tradition.

A Pioneer Woman representing trade and commerce in the new colony will complete the Settlement Art sculpture series.
